Magic - the word evokes a number of thoughts within ideas of power, superstition and myth. Images of alchemists, wizards, mystics, witches, as well as the profound thoughts in the realm of religious beliefs and practices to the of study science. Magic's mystery is its impact on our world and thoughts. Unfortunately, many of these thoughts have been lost due to the passing of time.
Some claim that magic is dead and has suffered its final indignity at the hands of tuxedo-clad conjurors. But, William says, "it is my belief that magic is not only alive, but will continue to live and thrive as long as we, as a people, have a desire to grow, think and improve ourselves. For magic, in my opinion, is the spark that questions what if and why not. It's the fuse that, when ignited, causes us to reach beyond ourselves. This is something that no amount of so-called magicians can destroy."
The definition William uses for what magic is, is as follows:
"The art of creation or transformation by mental and/or physical means; can help promote ideas of wonderment, mystery, or fascination, whether it be to elevate the spirit, make a point or simply to entertain."
Since 1988, William has been a performing magician but his thoughts and what he does is different then many of his colleagues. William's performance is not a collection of "tricks" but an infusion of the physical with mental, myth, philosophy, psychology, art and communication into what he calls Psychodynamic Entertainment.
It is William's view that "magic is all around us and the role of the magician is not to 'fool' or present 'tricks' but to ignite the mind with a new prospective on life." Whether performing in an intimate setting for a few or on a stage in front of hundreds - no matter the venue, be it a private party, convention, trade show or banquet for adults, his goal is not only to entertain but to touch the spirit with ideas that harken back to simpler times when ritual, power and superstition were one." However, he says, "children are yet another story, even though many have replaced the spark of fantasy and imagination with concerns better left to their elders, I have designed performances that help them re-claim ideas of childhoods past. This type of performance is designed to raise childrens' sense of mystery, increase self-esteem and capture wonderment lost. This would be suitable for birthdays to school assemblies."
The performance of magic, in my opinion, is for everyone and anyone who wishes to put aside day-to-day concerns, breathe new life into the thought process or give this gift to others. "Mr. Corey, thank you for allowing me to assist you in your wonderful show! I have just one question were those things you did just tricks or was it real? Forget it, better to let the wonder last then let the wonder be lost."
